I had a certain amount of trust in purchasing a rather expensive used vehicle. I just hope nothing else decides to fail, say a transmission or engine, not that I would blame Prestige at this point. Just don't let the name fool you; not everything they sell is worth their “prestige.” Money and profit may trump any commitment to the costumer at this establishment. Just make sure you have a truly independent mechanic examine any car you're looking at from this (or really any) place.
Took a topper in a year ago, so they could sell it and give me a percentage of it they never called so I'm back to get it and it was gone they have no idea where it went so never bring your topper to this place because you'll never get it back
My next mistake was being oblivious to the fact that the clutch wasn't acting normal during the test drive. It had been a long time since I'd driven a car with a manual transmission, so I figured it was my driving skills that were rusty. The clutch seemed fine to my untrained foot. However, in less than 1000 miles, it was in need of replacement, a $1000 job. So much for the drivetrain test. The car had 83K miles on it, so a new clutch wasn't out of the question in terms of timing, although 83K is a little early by today's standards. One would think however that any of the folks at Prestige, who undoubtedly drive a fare number of cars, would have noted the clutch. Any honest person would have pointed it out, fixed it, or at least sold the car for less.
I bought a used car from Prestige in November 2007. The gang at Prestige seemed like honest, responsible folks and they were asking a reasonable price for this car (~10K for a 2001, right between private and dealer prices on KBB). They claimed to have independent testing done on all of their cars, including a professional engine/drivetrain test (to prevent them from investing in and selling lemons, according to the salesman). I had local dealership give the car a good look-over and they noted, as I had suspected after a test drive, warped brake rotors on the front, but no other issues. Unfortunately, this was far from the truth.
They must hate making money. I tried to call three days in a row, nobody answered the phone. I'll be taking by business elsewhere.
My greatest mistake was not seeing the brake rotors as a warning sign. We agreed to a price to fix them and deducted that from the price of the vehicle. The question that should have been running through my head was “This was a fairly obvious and easy to fix issue; why didn't they fix it before they tried to sell it?” I suspect now they were just trying to make a good hunk of money without actually selling anything of that quality. I fixed the rotors at the dealership a few days later, when they kindly informed me that the rear rotors were also warped, something that had been conveniently overlooked in the inspection. They were replaced as well, doubling the cost of this fix. It turned out that the salesman knew the dealership quite well (as a former salesman), so the inspection was probably lacking a critical, independent eye that was necessary to actually examine the car.
